The Sinclair dinosaur was born from a unique marketing strategy in the 1930s, Sinclair Oil used the Sinclair Dinosaur to represent the age and endurance of fossil fuels. Dino became more than a corporate symbol, he was depicted as a friendly and approachable cartoon character in Sinclair’s advertising campaigns, especially popular with families and children.
As Sinclair’s brand recognition grew, Dino’s popularity did too. In the 1964 World’s Fair in New York, Sinclair brought Dino to life with life-sized dinosaur sculptures, including the Brontosaurus, which delighted millions of fairgoers and cemented Dino’s status as a cultural icon.
